What is the process of buying a prepaid SIM card in Singapore?

I will be leaving for Singapore in just a few weeks, and I will be bringing my unlocked smartphone there with me. I intend to buy a prepaid SIM card for my smartphone, and am wondering if this is a troublesome process and if I need to pay any kind of activation fee. Are there many places that sell prepaid SIM cards there? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. What is the process of buying a prepaid SIM card in Singapore?
You can buy one at 7-11. Just remember to take your passport because they need ID to "register" you. It costs $17 or so and includes that much in credit. What is the process of buying a prepaid SIM card in Singapore?
